3 Common Mixing & Mastering Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Song

Sometimes when mixing and mastering, producers may overproduce a record. This can happen when too many unnecessary elements are added to the song, making it busy and hard to digest. Many new producers will encounter this issue, though it is hard to correct.

Let’s review three common mixing and mastering mistakes that can ruin your song.

    Too Many Plugins

Plugins are very useful, but it is easy to weigh your song down with them. It’s best to keep the plugins at a minimum so that the record does not sound too busy and uncoordinated.

    Too Heavy On the Drums

Just as heavy plugins can negatively impact your record, so can too many drums. Drums are robust instruments. Therefore, if you are not careful, they can easily overpower your song.

    Too Many Presets

Presets are great for beginners but do not depend solely on them. Presets are generic, and if you cannot tweak them to your liking, they are useless. Manipulate the presets as often as possible.

We’re sure producers make thousands of mistakes when learning to create music. However, these are three of our biggest pet peeves regarding tunes. Hopefully, this can help someone during their next studio session.
