    Balancing Your Mental Health As a Musician

     

    The constant hustle and bustle of being an artist can take a toll on your mental health. It is essential to your craft that you recognize when you are in need of a break and when to take time for yourself. 

     

    Every Artist Will Experience "Burnout"

    Losing excitement and feeling uninspired about your music are signs of burnout. Physical, mental, and emotional tiredness are the causes of burnout. It's usually brought on by work, and it's easily recognized by a feeling of dread when faced with mundane tasks. Allow yourself frequent pauses and impose daily limits on music-making. Also, find a way to reward yourself for remaining diligent and accountable to those restrictions and breaks.

     

    Discover Your Own Forms of Self-Care

    Self-care is personal to everyone. You'll have to find what it means for you. It can come in the form of yoga, a spa day, a new haircut, biking, pretty much anything that you enjoy doing leisurely. 

     

    Pay Attention to Your Body

    Feeling tired, drained, unwell, or even just a little off regularly is a sign that your body needs a rest. As with managing burnout, you will need to take a break if you begin to experience any of these symptoms. Failing to do so could result in extreme exhaustion, which can lead to serious health problems. 

     

    Find a Healthy Balance

    You will need to find a healthy balance between making music and taking time for yourself. If you are working on music for five hours out of the day, take at least one of those hours to catch up with a friend or practice any self-care methods. 

     

    While your music is vital, maintaining a healthy mental state is much more so. If you are not at your best mentally, your music will suffer. Never be afraid to try new ways to preserve your mental health or even seek help from a professional.
