Indie artists today have to use every opportunity they can to make money. That is why selling merch has become a necessary addition. Selling merchandise provides artists with additional income and offers fans band memorabilia as a keepsake.
Luckily for artists, Spotify and Shopify have partnered to make selling merch easier than ever. Spotify recognized that artists needed more on the streaming platform than just their tunes. With this in mind, the Spotify Merchbar was created. This digital merch offering links to an artist's Spotify profile and provides an e-commerce option that allows listeners to purchase goods while streaming music.
Many musicians remain skeptical about using Spotify Merchbar, not believing that it is worth the trouble to set up. Some are simply not aware of the program and its potential. Today we are going to walk you through how to set up your Spotify Merchbar and get you started making extra funds.
First, you'll need to have a Spotify for Artists profile. You will then set up your Shopify store. Thankfully, this is inexpensive, with plans starting at just $29 a month. Once you do this, link your Shopify store to your Spotify page by following these steps:
1. Log into Spotify for Artists
2. Go to Profile
3. Click Merch
4. Log in to Shopify
5. Enter your Shopify store URL and click Link Shop
6. Log into your Shopify account, then follow the prompts
Publish Merch to Spotify for Artists
After linking your store, you will be able to add the merchandise you want to list on your Spotify for Artists page. To do this:
1. Log into Shopify
2. Go to Settings
3. Click Products, then select All Products
4. Choose a product
5. Click Manage next to Sales Channels and Apps
6. Make sure Spotify is selected, then click Done
7. Click Save at the top of the product page
One thing to remember is that you can only choose up to three items from your Shopify to sell on your Spotify Merchbar.
1. Log in to artists.spotify.com
2. Go to Profile
3. Select Merch
4. Click Add to shop on the items you want to be sold on your Merchbar
Now That Your Merchbar Is Up & Running
While they may seem like a lot, these steps are fairly simple. Once your store is up and running, you can begin tweaking it to fans' liking. Great merch to start off with is t-shirts, hats, mugs, and vinyl. However, pay attention to what sells and what doesn't. You can always put up new offerings by removing your Merchbar and re-adding it with new items.
Be sure to advertise your Merchbar the same way you'd promote your merch any other time. Use your social media platforms, website, and email blasts to let fans know that you've activated this feature on Spotify.
Take advantage of this helpful money-making tool. Having your fans be able to stream your music and purchase your merch all in one place can have a positive impact on your money flow.
