Last month, Twitter introduced its user tipping feature called Tips. For indie artists, this is another opportunity to put some extra cash in your pockets.
For those unfamiliar with this new feature, Tips is a link that you can enable on your Twitter profile that will allow anyone who visits it to leave you a cash tip, similar to having your Cash App link in your bio.
Let’s explore how this new feature can work out great for musicians who use Twitter often.
Who Can Get Tips
Any Twitter user who activates the feature in their settings can begin getting Tips. It does not depend on how many followers you have. However, having a large following can better your chances.
Using Your Following to Your Advantage
For artists who have a large following, your chances of getting Tips are much greater, especially if your tweets constantly go viral. Therefore, you want to continue tweeting things that your followers will engage with. Relatable tweets, tweets about trending topics, and insider jokes exclusive to Twitter will better your chances of going viral. This drives traffic to your profile and likens the chances of receiving Tips.
Many popular Twitter users with large followings charge for promotional tweets for small businesses, much like Instagram influencers. Tips can allow you to get paid quickly for people looking for this type of marketing.
Another smart way to benefit from Tips is by charging your followers to participate in Twitter Spaces rooms. If most of your followers are fans of your music, tell them they must leave a Tip to get into the Space. Then, it would be best if you made it worth their while by previewing new music, hosting a merch giveaway, etc.
As an artist, many supporters are likely following you because they enjoy your music. So make sure you are posting engaging content regarding your tunes. Fans who appreciate your music are likely to leave you a Tip.
How to Get Paid
Those who want to use Tips can tap the icon next to the Follow button on the profile page. A list of acceptable payment services will come up. The user will then choose from Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Wealthsimple Cash, or Venmo. After making the selection, they will be redirected to the payment services platform to complete the transaction. The funds will come to you instantly. Twitter does not keep any of it.
While it is still a fresh feature, Twitter Tips has the potential to bring in some serious dough for artists without requiring much effort.
Activate the feature now to get started.
