Legendary rapper, DJ, and beatboxer Biz Markie has passed away at age 57.
The news of his death was announced on Friday after months of speculation regarding his declining health. The hip-hop icon was even rumored to have died two weeks ago. However, his manager Jenni Izumi put the lie to rest, revealing to fans that the "Just a Friend" star was still fighting and surrounded by a dedicated team of medical professionals.
Sadly, Biz died from a long battle with Type II Diabetes at a Baltimore hospital with his wife Tara Hall by his side. She took to Instagram Friday evening to pay homage to her husband, writing, "A GOOD heart stopped beating this evening."
Biz Markie rose to fame in 1989 with his hit record, "Just a Friend." He went on to appear in "Men In Black 2" and "Roxanne, Roxanne." His hit song was remixed in 2002 by then-upcoming singer Mario, with Biz guest-starring In the music video for the platinum-selling remake.
Needless to say, this music pioneer will be missed for generations to come. Rest in peace Biz Markie.
