Jay-Z, Nas, and other prominent music figures have rallied behind New York City mayoral candidate Ray McGuire.
With current NYC mayor Bill de Blasio’s term coming to an end, McGuire, a former Citigroup executive, is looking to lead the city out of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a new campaign video, Angie Martinez, Steve Stoute, Nas, Diddy, and HOV all express their support for the Harvard graduate.
“New York is in a state of emergency. This is my endorsement for Ray. Through those 30 years, wherever we were at, Ray was always talking about the people,” Diddy stated.
McGuire is pushing for a job boost in New York City as well as support for small businesses. If elected, he hopes to suspend fees associated with starting a new business for at least two years. Views such as these are what intrigued Nas, who says that “somewhere along the lines, the ball got dropped.”
“It’s all about a racial divide, but we’re the most diverse city in the world. The city’s broken, and I haven’t heard anybody saying anything about it. Everything he’s saying is everything I want to hear.”
McGuire is facing off with Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams, former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, Maya Wiley, Kathryn Garcia, Shaun Donovan, Dianne Morales, and several others.
