Rap icon and affluent businessman Master P is looking to open his own HBCU.
On Wednesday, the mogul made the announcement in an Instagram video, captioned, “I used to want to own an NBA team but now I want to own a HBCU.”
“More women graduate from HBCU’s than any other university and I love that. If we’re going to change the narrative,” the “I Got The Hook Up” rapper wrote. In the video, P revealed that he wanted to attend Southern University when he was younger. He reminisced on the sight of beautiful Black people he witnessed getting an education while visiting friends at the college, which seems to be the driving force behind his new initiative to open the school.
While some may be shocked by the news, opening his own HBCU is on-brand for the 50-year-old. He co-founded the snack company, Rap Snacks, which has grossed over $3 million and recently partnered with Lil Baby. With James Lindsay serving as CEO, the company remains Black-owned.
Last month, Master P and retired NBA pro-Baron Davis announced that they were in talks of purchasing the athletic brand Reebok for around $2.4 billion.
Another major move in the works for the No Limit founder.
