Ahead of his NFT album, "Bacc on Death Row," Snoop Dogg has purchased his former label, Death Row Records.
The full-circle moment comes as the label has faced years of financial issues and a dark reputation following the shortcomings of its CEO, Suge Knight. Founded in 1992, Death Row filed for bankruptcy in 2006. In 2009, it was purchased for $18 million by WIDEawake Entertainment before ending up with MNRK Music Group.
In its glory days, Death Row spawned the careers of the late Tupac Shakur, Snoop, and Dr. Dre.
The "Gin N Juice" rapper has been working for months behind the scenes to obtain the label in hopes of reviving it for a future generation of artists. The move comes just ahead of his first NFT project, which does not yet have a release date.
Congrats to Snoop Dogg, and welcome back Death Row Records!
