Soulja Boy has welcomed Chet Hanks to the SODMG Records family.
The son of actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who often finds himself in the headlines for inappropriate comments and cultural appropriation, will finally have the chance to showcase his rapping abilities on a large scale.
Soulja confirmed the latest signee in an Instagram video Tuesday night.
“Chet Hanks man, my new artist signed to SODMG Records as the first rapper signed this year,” Soulja bragged alongside his new protege, who also boasted about the move on his IG.
Prior to his signing, Chet, who goes by the stage name, Chet Hanx, unveiled his debut single “White Boy Summer” in April, which caused quite a stir on social media. Users criticized him for using the term “white boy summer,” insinuating that It may have a racist undertone. He followed up in June with his second single, “DAMN!”
With Chet and his label head having so much controversy surrounding them, it will be interesting to see the work dynamic between the two. If nothing else, we’re sure a few meme-worthy moments will come out of it.
